About "agressive" compression

I have over 200 Mb of images from the F505 and have yet to see any compression artifacts at all. I have even taken the images from the camera and recompressed them to 1/10th of their original size (50- 60Kb) and still don't see compression artifacts. So there isn't any "photo degredation" to be seen at all! What you may be seeing (and mistaking for Jpeg compression) is low light noise. Don't forget, this is only an ISO 100 camera and you will need to have sufficient light! Take a picture in a low light situation and you will see grain but that is not the effects of Jpeg. I think you will see from a thread on the

Digital Cameras Forum here that there is virtually no signigficant difference at all between TIFF and Jpeg except for use as a marketing ploy to trap the unwary. Why would anyone want to fill up their memory card with unnecessarily huge picture files that do not produce any improvement in quality. I am sure anyone who thought about it would never want to limit themselves to SIX pictures on a 32Mb card! Forget about uncompressed mode! Not necessary! Not useful and no better than a well compressed Jpeg!
