ENEMY GLORY
Written by Greger Rönnqvist

Point Of Ares is a band from the New England area, formed in June of 1993, playing Goth-influenced Art Rock/Neo-Progressive Rock. The music is a mix of everything you can imagine: Jethro Tull, Rush, Marillion, Led Zeppelin, Marillion, Green Day, Nirvana, Cirith Ungol-you name it! It's very hard to describe.

This is a concept hard rock / prog rock album based on Karen Michalson's unpublished dark fantasy novel, Enemy Glory. Karen is narrating/singing this strange, magical, dark fantasy tale "about a young student of magic that embraces evil", accompanied by rock 'n' roll. She's expressing the emotions of the characters in her novel. Unfortunately the words often get lost in the somewhat noisy guitar, something to think about on the follow up CD. The main subject on this CD is not the music, but the spoken tales and the story, and I think it should have laid more in the foreground. This is why I think the both spoken word pieces "Track" and "Trackless" is two of the best tracks on this CD.

If you're into fantasy tales, "Lord of the Rings", Role-Playing, "Dungeons and Dragons", this might be a good CD to put on as a soundtrack when reading/playing. I think the best reason to buy this CD is because of the story, not the music.

Point Of Ares is planning a new release "The Sorrows of Young Apollo" due out June 21 of 1998. I'm rather curious to hear how they have developed since this album from 1996.
