'Building Rome' is Mercury Rising's second release. It's progressive metal in the veins of Fates Warning, although much heavier. Puzzling rhythms and strange melodies are the significant marks of their music. The guitar sound is intense, really massive, and often similar to the roaring sound that some death metal bands use today. The guitars and thundering drums leave no space for the bass. The singer is really charismatic, high pitching, but not entirely satisfying. The CD features eight tracks, totaling 43 minutes. The last two tracks 'Renaissance' and 'Think' could be considered as the two best songs on the album. The first is the only even-tempered track, and the latter is the most innovative and definitely the most progressive track, which even let's the bass come to it's right. 'Building Rome' is heavy, unconditionally heavy, and will surly attract the right crowd, which appreciate the music of Mercury Rising.
