ELODIA
Written by Christian Axén

'Elodia' is Lacrimosa's sixth release. It's a concept album, spanning 3 acts and it tells a fascinating story about love and death. The two involved in the story are a man and a woman. Tilo Wolff, who also wrote, composed and produced the album, does the male part. Anne Nurmi does the female part. Featured on the CD is The London Symphony Orchestra. The combination between hard riffing electric guitars with metal drumming and a symphony orchestra creates an unusual, yet interesting sound. The orchestra builds the moods and feelings vital for an opera.

A fair classification of the music would be rock, metal and opera with a trace of gothic influences. The singers are very charismatic, and reveal the characters emotions in a most impeccable way. All the lyrics, except track four, are in German. This makes the album less at hand for the regular listener, but they emotions fabricated by the classic arrangements and the singer's tone mediates the context to a degree of some understanding.

The 58 minutes of music divided into three acts take you through a breathtaking musical journey. The great production, neat choirs, cool riffs and movie-like arrangements make 'Elodia' an appealing release, which could, without the German lyrics, be a classic with in it's somewhat hard-definable genre, and attract a wider audience.
