Hughscore was founded in 1995 by the bassist and composer Hugh Hopper (England), know for his work with Soft Machine, and the Seattle musicians Fred Chalenor (bass, guitar) and Elaine diFalco (vocals). "Delta Flora" is their third release, and first with new drummer Tucker Martine. The music is experimental, atmospheric and sometimes overwhelmingly original. A bit strange, but still fascinating. The CD consists of 9 songs, to a summed total of almost 60 minutes. A diversify album, a mix of beautiful vocal tracks and experimental, not easy-digestible tracks. For example the track "Robohop" is, as you can figure out from the title, very bizarre and odd, but still enjoyable. Peculiar noises and strange rhythms compiled to an instrumental track, which many will find as highly experimental. The first half of the album is easier to digest then the later part, which is more pioneering and abnormal. The vocal performance of Elaine diFalco's is exceptional, beautiful and very passionate. The production work is outstanding, showing no faults. An experimental disc, although, it's still great music.
