VIGIL IN A WILDERNESS OF MIRRORS
Written by Magnus Florin

The debut album from Derek W. Dick after leaving of Marillion. If you compare this album with "Seasons End" which Marillion released with their replacement singer Steve Hogarth, then "Vigil..." is better. Much better to put it right. Marillion went into some kind of soft rock, while Fish continued with that little extra, Genesis-influenced, progressive rock. Since this is the first Fish album, it has some similarities with the older Marillion albums but later on Fish also went into some kind of softer rock thing, which really isn't bad either. His charismatic vocal style makes it quite interesting.

There's not much to say about these songs except that they're all good, with the exception of track 6, "The Voyeur". That track is a little strange, "View From The Hill" is co-written by Janick Gers, which is known as one of the guitarists of todays' Iron Maiden (If it's the same guy). He also plays guitar on the track. "Big Wedge" is a fast song in similar style to the old Marillion classic "Incomunicato". A classic album from a classic vocalist, defenitly worth buying.
