Derek Sherinian, previously with Dream Theater, releases his first solo project on Magna Carta Records. The all-instrumental music is co-written with virtuoso drummer Virgil Donati and guitarist Brett Garsed. The bassist featured on the album is Tony Franklin. After getting a lot of criticism for his work with Dream Theater, Derek Sherinian demonstrates ten startling progressive imaginative compositions totaling almost 50 minutes. With a tight grip he twists, bends, turns and winds his keyboard, impressing to say the least. Fast, tight, artistic, showing no fear for the odd and peculiar. He is radiant through out the album, with dazzling keyboards. The keyboards are at the top of the production (what did you expect?), which devours the guitars. The production work isn't the best, although acceptable. Derek Sherinian will hopefully continue on this course, producing high quality instrumental music like Planet X.
