LET’S DO IT TWICE - NEW YEAR PROGRAM
 
 
We celebrate the New Year twice, first New Year rollover with fireworks at 23.00 CET, as Finland is an hour ahead of us, and at midnight CET it is time for the second fireworks display. Arctic Circle Land is situated on the border between Sweden and Finland.

Nowhere else in Europe can you celebrate the New Year twice on the Arctic Circle and addition on ice.

 

30/12 2006     Arrival day

Departure from x to – Luleå, the capital city of Swedish Lapland.

Arrival around midday at the airport. The guide will meet you off the plane in a luxury coach.

After loading the coach we head for Överkalix. The transfer takes less than 1,5 hours.

Information evening with dinner buffet at the accommodation.

 

31/12 2006 New Year Celebrations.

Breakfast. Here will we also meet the reindeer farmer Ola Rokka and his fammily. He will teach us a little about the way of life of a reindeer farmer.

Then we start training to throw the lasso at reindeer horns. When we have mastered it will we can try to catch a live animal in the corral.

Afterwards it’s time to take a short ride on a sledge behind reindeer.

Next on the programme will be the Lappish baptism ceremony, which every tourist who visits the Land of the Arctic Circle has to endure. Before leaving the farm we will be served a wilderness lunch in the goahti tepee. (duration 3 hours).

Free time until New Year dinner. After a tasty four course dinner its time to put on warm winter clothes, we head for Arctic Circle village Juoksengi where the New Year´s celebration will take place on the ice-covered Torne river between Sweden and Finland. There will be winter activities and dancing galore! Since there are two different time zones in Sweden and Finland the change-over from 2006 to 2007 will take place TWICE!!!

Fireworks and entertainment.

 1/1  2007 Arctic transportation.

Breakfast. Short transfer to the Husky Farm. After info about dogs and dogsleds together with our experienced guide, will we take a try-out tour of approx. 3km.

The only noise we will hear when we are cruising through the landscape is the only noice we  can hear is yelping of the dogs .

Then it’s time for a more modern and complicated vehicle, the snowmobile.

We have an introduction, including safety info + information & tips on snowmobile driving, and a try-out tour with a guide. We drive along an easy track for beginners 2 persons / sledge  - approx. 25 km.

We make a fire and heat something to drink, make snow angels and listen to info about plants and animals in the area. Programme lasts 5 - 6 hours.

 

2/1  2007       Time to leave.

After breakfast our coach takes us back to the airport in Luleå, from where the homeward journey begins. Now is the time for you to say farewell to Lapland – for this time at least!
