Flow Acoustics


Aim: To present the fundamental theories for sound and propagation in fluids with non-stationary (turbulent) flow fields

Syllabus: Sound propagatio in moving media. The wave equation with source terms. Lighthillns theory for aerodynamic sound generation with applications. Sound from moving sources. Sound propagation in ducts and pipes.Self sustained oscillators-Whistles. Sound generation from various fluid machines.


Laboratory exercise: Sound propagation in ducts with flow.

Project exercise: Design of a muffler

Prerequisites: Advanced course in mathematical analysis, Basic course in fluid dynamics and sound and vibration

Requirements: Written examination (TEN1; 1.5 P), approved exercises (TEN2; 1.5 P) and projects (LAB1,2; 0.5+0.5 P)
