Schubert admired many great composers, especially Beethoven. He admired him so much that he insisted on carrying Beethoven's coffin at his funeral. Also, Schubert was burried where he wanted to, next to Beethoven. Schubert not only admired the great composers - Mozart, Bach and Haydn, he also admired the great poets of that time- Schiller Goethe, Heine and Müller.
Both Beethoven and Antonio Salieri liked Schubert very much. But many composers disliked Schubert, i.e. Wagner, Mendelsson and Liszt. Therefore I wonder:
So far a majority seems to like Schubert more than Wagner. Some people even hate Wagner! Everyone seems to agree that the two guys are very, very different!
And Schubert is the best! Maybe that is why the mean(!) Wagner disliked Schubert so much!
But one question has come to my mind; Shall you judge a composer by his life or by his music alone? Isn't a composers music a mirror of his life???
