DE LA PORTA

In 1292 Marco Polo, as the first European, told about the kites in China. Maybe he was the source to Giovanni Baptista De La Porta an Italian who 1558 published Magiae Naturalis where this kite can be found.. It won't fly without a tail. This kite has a three-point bridle that may have to be adjusted sidewise as well as up- or downward. If it pulls to the right you have to make a slight adjustment to the right. To make it more stable move the bridle point upwards.

1. Draw the lines and cut out.

2. Cut two 18" sticks and put them in a cross with each end at a corner, and fix them with bits of tape.

3. Now turn the kite over and decorate the frontside.

4. Put one piece of tape in the center of the kite, as reinforcement for the bridle.

5. Cut two pieces of string, 18" and 24" long for the bridle. Attach the longer one between the upper two corners of the kite and the other one from the center of the kite. Tie the loose end of the shorter one by making a loop in the exact middle of the upper one.

6.Tie another 24" piece of string to the two lower corners of the kite, again make a loop in the exact middle of this string. Put a 24 feet long tail through the loop and fold it so you will have two 12 feet tails. Fix it with a piece of tape.

7. Now you can attach your kite line to the bridle and let the kite fly...
