Koi are a fish which do not crave a great deal of care and
attention.CLEAN water with sufficient oxygen in it. Is all they
need. Plants give oxygen and shade and, at the same time,
somewhere for the fish to hide themselves. They eat most of what
we eat. They love rice and corn. Pet-shops sell excellent Koifood
such as: Nippon,Tetra,Hikari, Pond2000 or Grand Champion.
It is preferable to
buy your Koi in autumn or even winter and keep them first in an
aqarium In that way you learn to get to know each other. You will
quickly learn how pleasant it is to keep Koi.
Pet-shops where you buy your Koi
will have good books on the Koi-keeping. Once you start to keep
Koi it will become like stamp collecting. One simply has to have
more and better specimens. Do not buy too big fish. They grow
quickly. A Koi can grow to be over a meter long. They grow
according to the space you can give them. If your pond is
sufficiently deep your Koi can remain in there over the winter.
They become dormant and require no food
