The 2002 Equalizer Trophy, was played in Hällefors in 7-8 of September.
This tournament began on friday morning when the four "high handicapers" Rickard, Magnus N, Magnus R and Henrik decided to carry through a coup and go and practice a day early at Saxå GK where the following two days the Championship would be decided. Brilliant golfing weather saw the players perform brilliantly. At the top, Henrik scored a nice 34 with the others close behind. Unfortunately, only Rickard managed to follow up with stunning golf during the weekend and was very close to winning.
This turned out to be one of the closest tournaments ever where the scores were less dramatically spread. Värmland/Västmanland offered truly great golfing weather, and as a result of the warmest summer ever in Sweden (since measurements begun about 200 years ago), the course was in excellent condition.
Spare time events included water skiing, sauna, outdoor tubbing, cards and a European Championship football qualifier on TV between Sweden and Lattvia (in Lattvia). Much to our disgust, Sweden played the worst soccer ever seen, only managing to draw nil-nil. The truth is that Lattvia both deserved and should have had the three Victory points, scoring a fair goal that was taken away from them. Luckily, we managed to calm down after viewing some porn on Mats fathers widescreen TV with 150 channels.
Food-wise, we ate at the club twice (three times for the "friday players") and the chef students in charge served some really delicious dishes. Other than that, Mike had put together a chili for friday evening that in combination with heaps of chips, cheese doodles and beer turned out to be an excellent recipe for the smelliest tournament so far.
