The 2001 Equalizer Trophy, was played in Hällefors in early September.
* For the first time, the tournament Champion was not decided on the final day of competition. After playing a play-off round at Wäsby GK later in the year, Mats emerged victorious over the young and less weathered player Jonas.
Writing this report close to one year after the event, most details have escaped my mind. It is clear however that drinking beer dressed in underwear was very likely one of the more popular spare time events (as it always is).
I also recall that Mats father had installed a small pool by the water front, heated by the means of a wood burning furnace. While relaxing in the pool, drinking beer, several of us enjoyed the screams and uneven water skiing skills of Jonas as he passed us by at 40 knots behind Mats in the power boat.
On a personal note, I took some time out of the evening and night on Saturday to go to a wedding of a friend of mine only a few kilometers away from Mats summer place. This fact in combination with the fact that Rickard had to leave early on Sunday to catch a flight and the fact that Jonas managed to turn one of our first day score cards into pulp in the rain on Sunday explains why the scores are not all there.
Other than that, the competition turned out to be the usual walk in the park for our low handicap friends.Although some rain fell on both Saturday and Sunday our usual hangovers made it all seem less troubling.
The first round was played at Saxå GK and the second round was played at Linde GK, well on the way back to Stockholm.
Please note Mats scoring 2 below par on the first nine day two.
