The 2001 Helvetis-Boda Challenge Trophy, perhaps our finest tournament so far, was played in the vicinity of Stockholm the 1-3 of June.
Last years winner, Peter Jangbratt, had set a program not likely to be forgotten in a very long time. Although most weathermen predicted heavy rainfall throughout the weekend we were lucky enough to enjoy only a partially cloudy sky and 15-18 C. Except for a small shower on Saturday morning, we were blessed with good golfing weather.
For a mere 999 SEK Peter arranged the following program;
Friday
17,00 We met at the Scandic Hasselbacken hotel on Djurgården. After enjoying a beer in the sunshine in the terrace bar, we checked into our rooms (doubles) and headed off to play some football and enjoy a picnic on a meadow further out on the fabulously beautiful Djurgården.
After returning to our rooms to freshen up in the hotel spa, we proceeded to the Gröna Lund amusement park for a 5-leg battle (airgun, horseracing etc) and rode both fritt fall and the rollercoaster. At around 24,00 we returned to the hotel to catch a few well needed hours of sleep.
Saturday
After rising out of bed at around 06,30, we checked out of the hotel and drove 20 minutes to the Ullna golf course, one of Swedens finest. The course proved very fine and challanging and we all had a bit of trouble mastering the fast greens.
After enjoying a beer at the golf club, we returned to Stockholm to check in at the Scandic Park hotel where we enjoyed lunch and a few beers. During our lunch quite a few of the players of the National Swedish football team passed us by in the lobby as they were staying at the same hotel. Later in th evening we went to Råsunda to see Sweden beat Slovakia in a 2002 world championship qualifier. Sweden won 2-0 after showing off some really great fotball during the second leg of the game.
After returning to the hotel, we freshened up and went down to the bar to enjoy a few more bears and head out on the town. Once again we stumbled across many of our National football players as they also enjoyed the hospitality of the same hotel bar.
Sunday
After checking out of the horel at around 07,00 we proceeded once again to the Ullna golf course for another day of fabulous golf. As the day drew to an end, Jonas Liljedahl once again raised the Helvetis-Boda Challenge Trophy into the sky. This time, he had a close battle with his older brother Mikael who had the misfortune of finding his ball buried under a root when he had his best chance to close the gap on the 15 th hole.
In all, Peters planning of the weekend could not have been any better and we all tried to convince him into accepting the responsibility of arranging all future tournaments.
