The 1999 Equalizer Trophy was played 4-5 september at Hofors GK in Gässtrikland, with a record breaking eleven competitors rising up to the challenge. New champion, Richard Gåhlin, maintained cool throughout both days of golf and easily won the tournament, scoring an average of 33,5 points, ending up five points ahead of three runners-up.
Previous Equalizer Trophy holder Mikael Liljedahl looked a strong contender for a follow up on last years achievement by scoring average rounds well above 30 points the last weeks before the tournament. His terrible hook (with his brand new high off-set Big Bertha irons) off tee one day one suggested that he might not become this years winner.
New and welcome faces on the tour were Peter Jangbratt and Johan Lauri.
Not only did we enjoy great golf and brilliant weather (+24 C and sun), but we also had excellent lodging at Lasses and Kerstins Malmgården in Bodås. Perhaps our finest hour that weekend, aside from when playing golf , was Saturday night when we watched Sweden beat Bulgaria 1-0 in the European soccer championship qualifier at Råsunda, followed by dinner, sauna, plenty of beer and card games and dart. A truly enjoyable weekend.
