The 1997 Helvetis-Boda Challenge Trophy was our first visit to Mats parents cabin/villa in Laxå near Hällefors, 400 km west of Stockholm.
This tournament was the turning point of a downward trend since the first tournament was played just over a year before. Both Magnus Nehard and Rickard could not make it (last minute calls) and we were running short on participants.
Mats however had the good sense to bring along a couple of buddies, Jonas Liljedahl and Björn Löfgren, a move which I think in the long run meant a lot for the survival of the tournaments. We were glad to have them aboard and started realising that this tournament might actually expand in the future.
Despite really wet weather (although it was always clear when we played) and water drenched courses, the event turned out really succesful once again. The only player good enough to manage these conditions was Mats. While the rest of us ploughed the rough, he kept up his below scratch quality and won.
On this occation we performed a lot of outdoor activities such as water skiing , boulle and archery. Nevertheless, as dusk got closer, the card table once again became the center of our attention.
