The self-titled debut album was released in Australia on March 24th 1997. It sold 70,000 copies in Australia during the first 3 days from when it was released, making it a platinum in that short time. It debuted at the charts at #1. On April Fools Day the album went to #1 on both National Charts and at the same time the single "Truly Madly Deeply" reached its #1 position. Savage Garden is the only Australian band to ever achieve that. It has currently sold over 560,000 copies in Australia (8x platinum) and over 2 million worldwide. It has gotten a platinum in the USA too for selling over 1 million copies.
Every track is different from the other and they really show that they can make different types of songs, happy, sad, angry, hard or soft , it's all in the album. I love it and think all of the songs are excellent.
They have released two versions of the album, one for Australia and the other international version was released by Columbia Records (Sony). Visit my other links for lyrics, audio and video samples.
