Björk "I miss you" (part 1)

First of all, a comment on the extremely cool single-cover. It has got a drawing of Björk dressed in some sort of "Superwoman"-outfit on the front. In the background there are millions of pictures of Jimmy - the idiot-boy, from the "I miss you"-video. It reminds me a bit of the "Army of me"-cover....

Anyway, the single starts with "I miss you" (the original "Post"-version), then it goes on with "I miss you (Doubie's rap part 2)", a further development of "I miss you (Doubie's rap part 1/ The sunshine mix)" from the "Telegram"-disc. Björk's vocalizations has been re-used, the biggest difference is the even more hip hop-like beat. "Doubie's rap part 2" is not as good as part 1 since the minimalistic scratching effects has been taken away, and since it becomes quite repetitive after a while. Speaking of repetitive....the next track is a nearly ten minutes long Detroit-techno-remix of the same song, made by Darren Emerson from Underworld. Some brilliant keyboard-efforts makes the track interesting, it's just a bit too long though.

The final track "Karvel" (it's sung all the way in Icelandic) is undoubtedly the most interesting one. It doesn't sound like any other Björk-related material I can think of. Somebody compared it to Aphex Twin, but I'm not quite sure on that point. The melody is quite simple, but the drum 'n' bass-like beat, the groovy bass-line and Graham Massey's amazing keyboard-effects (the statesman didn't make me dissapointed this time) makes it sound a lot more complex. The church-organ-like keyboards which breaks out in the end makes it even better. "Karvel" is one of Björk's greatest B-sides for quite a while and the main-reason why you should burn some money on this single.
