"Isobel" is about a girl who grows up in a pitch-dark forest. One day she notices small baby-skyscrapers on the ground. As time goes by the baby-skyscrapers grow into huge buildings and suddenly, she's a woman surrounded by a big city. She decides only to do what her instinct tells her to and not care about what people expects her to do, but when she meets people she gets into trouble, cause the people she meets are very clever and they only do what they're supposed to. It's plain to see, "Isobel" is Björk's autobiography. Björk wrote the song together with Nelleh Hooper, Marius de Vries and her old friend, Icelandic punk-poet Sjón. "Isobel" was originally recorded during the "Post"-session but then Björk added strings for it together with Eumir Deodato.
"Isobel" became the second single off "Post" in September 1995 and Michael
Goundry created a very beautiful black/white video for the song. The song
was released as two CD EPs and they also contain one Black Dog-collaboration
("Charlene"), one LFO-collaboration ("I go humble"), a harpshicord-version
of "Venus as a boy" which was performed at many of the plays during the
"Post"-tour and three mixes of the title-track by Eumir Deodato, former
Sugarcubes-drummer Siggtryggur Baldursson and Goldie (I guess you all know
who that is by know).

The words
In a forest pitch-dark
My name Isobel
In a heart full of dust
My name Isobel
When she does it she means to
Nana na nana
In her tower of steel
My name Isobel
When she does it she means to
Nana na nana |
