Björk "Hyper-ballad"

"Hyperballad" is about a couple living on top of a cliff in the middle of the ocean. She wakes up really early, about five o' clock in the morning and goes out and starts to throw things of the rock. It's a way for her to get rid of all her frustration before her lover wakes up. The song's autobiographical since Björk's claimed she hadn't managed to vent her frustrations enough to keep a relation-ship going. Björk originally recorded the song in The Bahamas together with Marius de Vries, Nelleh Hooper and Howie B (that's how she recorded many of the "Post"-songs), but she thought it sounded too soft so she added some strings for it together with Brazilian composer Eumir Deodato. "Hyperballad" became the fourth single of "Post" in February 1996. On the two CD EPs you find remixes by techno-artists such as Howie B, LFO and Plaid, but also a remix of another "Post"-song, "Isobel" by UK metal-band Carcass(!!!). Michel Goundry directed a video for the song, where Björk's taking the rule of a video-game-figure.

The words

We live on a mountain
Right at the top
There's a beautiful view
From the top of the mountain
Every morning I walk towards the edge
And throw little things off
Like:
Car-parts, bottles and cuttery
Or whatever I find lying around

It's become a habit
A way
To start the day

I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here with you

It's real early morning
No-one is awake
I'm back at my cliff
Still throwing things off
I listen to the sounds they make
On their way down
I follow with my eyes 'til they crash
Imagine what my body would sound like
Slamming against those rocks

When it lands
Will my eyes
Be closed or open?

I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here with you
