Björk "All is full of love"
The album-version of "All is full of love", which closes the epic "Homogenic",
is a strange, omnious piece consisting of strings, keyboard-sounds and odd
accordin-chords floating around freely and creating a soothing atmosphere
while mixed with Björk's sweet-sounding voice. The "video"-version of
the song, presented on this 6-track-Elektra-single and broadcasted on MTV,
is a lot more radio-friendly. Björk's voice, carrying the beautiful
melody-line, has been moved to the foreground, assisted by some skillful
"Jóga"-remiscent drum-programming. At the end there is a beautiful
string-crescendo, which makes it sound a bit like a grateful movie-sountrack.
The song is very intimate, though not as sparse as the original version and
sends out a great deal of warmth since the care-taking lyrics sound as if
they're directed straight to the listener. Again, this excellent release
marks one further step away from the cheerful dance-abality of "Debut" to
Björk's new, slower , more dramatic and serious-sounding landmark. This
single contain a beautiful experimental remix, courtesy of Funkstörung,
where Björk's vocalizations has been cut to pieces and randomly spread
across a softly distorted drum-beat, sounding somewhat like a deafened,
ambient-take on "Hyperballad (Over the edge-mix)". The two remaining mixes
(courtesy of Plaid and Guy Sigsworth) are both minimalistic electronica,
delivering the same sense of warmth as the original-version . If you like
go to bed with Björk's music then you'll love this single, but
you may be put if you're expecting sing-a-longs and danceability. By
the way, don't forget to check out the cool robot-sex-video,
included as an enhanced data-track!
