Björk "The best mixes from
the album Debut for all the people who don't buy white
labels"
Björk has been putting together a collection of 7" and 12"-remixes and the result is this 6-track single. I've already mentioned two of these remixes ("Human behaviour (The Underworld mix)" and "Come to me (Black Dog mix)" at my previous reviews. The four remaining remixes are all techno-mixes, three out of four can be categorized as ambient. Sometimes this slow ambient is nothing but boring but in "Come to me (Sabres of paradise mix)" it really sounds smashing. Silent metallic noises in the background, some whistling tunes and the greatest voice-distortion ever in a Björk-track! The track that can not be categorized as ambient is a really abortive remix of "The anchor song" made by Black Dog. The whole song has been cut to pieces by Black Dog and then they've been throwing the pieces all over each other without any skill. The original version of "The anchor song" is really harmonic and I don't like when people are doing things like this to harmonic things. The two remaining tracks are both remixes of "One day". The first one, "One day (Endorphin mix)" is a boring ambient-track with just some graceful movements in the chorus. The other one, "One day (Springs Eternal mix)" is completely invaded by synthesized noises. Björk is just singing some lines that can not be found in the original version. The rest is up to the synthesizers. The track is a little bit to long (9 minutes) but except from that I find it OK. If you are a pure techno-freak then this is must-have-single. But I like it even if it's not Björk's greatest single and I think you've just got to be in love with the "Debut"-album to like it.
