Björk "It's oh so quiet" (part
1)
Except from "It's oh so quiet" this single brings you two remixes and one
non-LP-track. After the title-track the single starts off with a "You've
been flirting again"-remix that begins with an uncontrollable atmosphere
containing some tones. But suddenly the whole thing comes together and bursts
out into a string-orchestra playing the most grateful string-arrangement
for a very long time. The string-arrangements to this remix reminds me a
lot of the type of string-arrangements romantic movies from the 50ths use
to end up with. An interesting idea and a very good remix. Next track that
stands in line is "Hyperballad (Over the edge)". When you listen to that
one you can not imagine that the original version of "Hyperballad" is a beautiful
masterpiece. Björk's vocalizations have been cut to pieces then thrown
over the filthiest and most distorted drums ever. It sounds just the way
you might have expected. Awful and glorious at the same time. Reminds me
a little bit of Front 242's "Religion (Pussy Whipped mix)".
One thing I find impressing with this single is all the categorizes the four
songs passes through. "It's oh so quiet" is a big band-jazz-song but I think
you knew that already. The remaining track "Sweet, sweet intuition" is played
all the way by an organ and reminds me a little bit of a psalm. The lyrics
to "Sweet, sweet intuition" reminds me a lot of the lyrics to the song "Bedtime
story" Björk wrote for Madonna. There are even three lines from "Bedtime
story" that are repeated in this one ("And inside we are all still wet,
longing and jerning"). There is not a song at this single that isn't
well made. I think the ones that will like this single the most are all those
people who are fascinated by Björk's incredible way to float between
every possible musical category (You can count me to that crowd). A recommended
one!
