- Alta Vista: a very
thorough key word search index. Possibly turns up more matches than Yahoo.
- Yahoo: The Yahoo site is one of
the most comprehensive WWW site index around. Literally thousands of links
to web sites are organized by subject and are fully searchable. A good place
to start if you're asking "I wonder if there's a site on...."
There probably is.

- AID: U.S. Agency for International
Development.
- OECD: Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development. Long known as the "rich countries' club,"
the OECD has been sponsoring a lot of research on the problems of transition
in Central and East Europe. Among other things, this site has details about
their paper and electronic publications.
- National Public Radio: Current news
and features from NPR; audio files of various stories, transcript abstracts
and other info. Includes transcript search and ordering information.
