Spain GP
Race
A disappointing race for Jean, after such a
great start of the weekend, starting from fifth place, the best in a long time. He lost
two places in the start to Jacques Villenueve and Jarmo Trulli but it wasn't to bad and he
passed Trulli later on. He pitted and got out in 9th and you saw that something was wrong.
On lap 27 he parked the Sauber and a really sad ending of the Spanish GP. Mika Hakkinen
won from pole with David Coulthard in second place. Michael Shumacher who got stuck behind
Jacques at the start was trying to get on the tail of David, but didn't really challenge
him. Michael had to settle for third. Eddie Irvine came in fourth, fifth was Ralf
Shumacher and the last point was left to Jarno Trulli who had a battle with Rubens and
Damon at the end. A battle which was ruined by the new rule of disqualifying after three
waving blue-flags. The drivers wasn't able to concentrate on there battle and had to watch
out for the front runners. Off course they should move aside when faster cars is about to
lap them but this was one step to far in my mind. Qualifying
Jean fifth! A wonderful day
in Spain and Jean makes his first run early, and the time is 1'22,388... It doesn't use to
last to long with early times in qualifying, but they comes out one after the other, and
nobody can beat him. Until Michael makes a run about halftime, and snaps provisional pole
from Jean. Later on Hakkinen snaps pole With Eddie in second, and Michael have to settle
for fourth with David Coulthard alongside him. But Jean is FIFTH! 'best of the rest' It's
a great result and finally it seams like the Sauber-team have found a Qualifying set-up.
Jean parked his car alongside the track with a possible mechanical problem ? at the end of
the session, and Sauber just HAVE to solve these problems until the Sunday race!
Friday free practice
This has been one of those
days.... Said Jean after the first free practice, for the Spanish GP on Sunday.
Preview
Now is the time to proof that Sauber is more than a mediocre third - rate Formula 1
team. Time to pick the pieces up, time to score some points!
Jean has made some results at the Catalunia circuit in the past, in 96 he was second in
the rain after Michael Shumacher and 97 he was third. Last year he touched with Frenzen in
the first corner and had understeering problems all race and finished 2 laps behind in a
10th place.
If Sauber doesn't provide Jean with some speed soon! I definitely think this season is
over and Jean has to start looking for a new drive for the next millenium. |
