Sepang - Kuala Lumpur Malaysian GP

23/10/99
Ferrari won the appeal!
Ferrari won the appeal made to FIA regarding the disqualification from the
Malaysian GP. Ferrari was reinstated as First and second, they keep all points scored in
Malaysia both in the constructors championship and the drivers championship.
Race
Eddie & Schumi won it! And got disqualified.
Eddie Irvine won the Malaysian GP with some assistance from he's team mate
Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen came in third. But all this was on the race-track.
FIA later disqualified both Ferraris due to illegal barge boards (deflector panels) on the
side of the car.
Jean Alesi made struggled on from 15th on the grid to a fine 7th place,
he made a race without mistakes, and overtook several cars, maybe the pit-strategy should
have been a one-stop, as Frenzen did and got himself the last point.
Now all this has changed and Mika Häkkinen is the 1999 provisional
world champion! Sorry to say we all have to wait for the final results of the 1999
Malaysian GP. Ferrari of course made an appeal to this. The FIA said to have a decision
later tonight or Monday.
This means that Jean is confirmed fifth and scored 2 points in Malaysia. Very nice indeed,
but sure it would have been, nicer to do it without the FIA involvement.

Alesi second fastest in first practice and third in the second. But ofcourse the
two Sauber cars was on light fuel and fresh tyres. A wet but drying track in the first
practice helped a bit to. Diniz was fourth in the second practice and completed a fine
first day of the Petronas Maaysia GP Grand Prix

A brand new track and a new country on the GP calendar, Sepang and Malaysia,
almost all previews is agreed that this is a great circuit. It is also the home GP for
Petronas, Saubers main sponsor so the pressure on the two Sauber drivers are a bit
increased. There is also a lot of speculations about the weather, apparently it's a
rain-period in Malaysia at this time, with showers every afternoon.
While Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard, Eddie Irvine and Heinz-Harald
Frenzen is battling out for the Championship and Michael Shumacher is making he's return
to the track, is maybe just what Jean Alesi needs to get it right and
score some points...
