Nurnburgring comments Sunday
Jean Alesi:
"What can I say ? It's been a very disappointing season for me. I think the
transmission failed, but we need to look as the car closely to be sure."
Pedro Diniz:
"After his accident, which was no fault of his own, Pedro was examined in the medical
centre. Apart from bruising to a shoulder and knee je had no visible injuries, but was
flown to hospital for further precautionary examination."
Peter Sauber:
"From our point of view our race finished at 3.15. Pedro was blameless and I
am very happy that he escaped his accident with remarkably light injuries. We wish him a
speedy recovery"
Saturday
Jean Alesi:
"I don't like the figures I saw from the wet set-up of the rear wing I was
going to use at the end, but rather than alter them it was quicker to use another wing
with dry settings in the limited time available. The track was quite consistent in the
final stages, but because of the wing situation I lacked downforce so the car was not at
its optimum"
Pedro Diniz:
"My last lap was easily good enough for a place in the top ten, until Irvine went
off the road and came straight back on in front of me without looking. I'm really
disappointed he did that, because the car felt so good. Nevertheless I still think I'm
well placed to score points tomorrow."
Peter Sauber:
"This was a qualifying session that read like a thriller, with tension right up
until the last second. In retrospect I think we should have waited a bit longer and
divided our last eight-lap runs into two stints. But it's always easy to be clever
in"
Friday
Jean Alesi:
"The balance of my car was fine today, no problems there. There was no massive
wheelspin, no oversteer nor understeer. It felt good, but I reached its limit in the
condition that we ran it today."
Pedro Diniz:
"It was a bit of struggle today to get the car balanced, especially on new tyres. I
lost a lot of time just trying a number of changes to the set-up. Then the front wing
became detached while I was passing the pits. That was a big moment! I wasn't aware of
hitting anything beforehand, so I'm not sure what happened, but it was a job to keep
control of the car. Fortunately I had time to get it slowed down before the first
corner."
Peter Sauber:
"Jean had a fairly typical Friday practice, which gave us the data to improve
tomorrow. Pedro's progress was interrupted, when he lost his front wing in a spectacular
manner on the start/finish straight, after it was damaged by contact with a rubber course
marker in one of the chicanes."
