Sunday
Jean Alesi:
After the first start I was worried that I had a clutch problem, but everything
was okay until shortly before my second pit stop, when I began to detect a problem with
the throttle potentiometer. I made my second stop, but immediately the problem got worth
so I stopped again at the end of the 34th lap. The team performed a software bypass to
overcome the problem, but by then I was far too far behind to score the points I believe
we deserved.
Pedro Diniz:
I said yesterday that I was looking forward to a good race, but it was a tough one,
with plenty of pressure. Fisichella in particular was strong competition in the closing
stages. My car was pretty difficult to drive, with too much oversteer, and my second pit
stop was a little long, but otherwise things went quite well and I am really pleased to be
in the points again.
Peter Sauber:
It is very, very difficult to score World Championship points, but today we managed it
again so therefore we are very happy. Congratulations, Pedro. Unfortunately, Jean was
denied his chance because of a mechanical problem. Sorry Jean, but in two weeks there will
be another opportunity.
Saturday
Jean Alesi:
This weekend I expected much more, but there have been too many problems. We have
not been consistent enough. Yesterday I lost the day with a clutch problem, and this
morning I had one with the fuel pressure. We need to stabilise the performance in order to
improve our results.
Pedro Diniz:
I feel a bit more positive, but unfortunately the track conditions changed after this
morning. The balance of the car wasn't as good for qualifying. This morning I had a little
too much understeer, this afternoon too much oversteer. We had altered the set-up a
little, but it was all mainly down to the track changing. I did just three runs, and hit
traffic on both laps of my second, but it wasn't too bad and I'm looking forward to a good
race tomorrow.
Peter Sauber:
We expected more from Silverstone, but the result is okay. We have to remember that we
were qualifying in the British teams' own backyard, where they do all of their testing.
Friday
Jean Alesi:
A disappointing day for me. The track conditions were different to the test here
last week, and didn't suit the set-up we worked out then. This morning my car was
oversteering on turn-in and understeering in the slow corners, and though we improved it
slightly this afternoon some of the bigger changes we tried did not work. I also had a
clutch problem which affected the gearshifts all day.
Pedro Diniz:
Like Jean, I found the car less stable than it had been in the tests, but mine was
understeering in the high-speed corners this morning, with power oversteer on the exit of
the slower ones. We improved the set-up a bit this afternoon and the car was better
balanced, and I think we are competitive. We have a good direction to continue working on
tomorrow.
Peter Sauber:
On the home circuit of the English teams, we felt our lack of experience today. This
was especially true in Jean's case. He doesn't feel comfortable with the car on the track
yet, and we haven't dialled the car in fully, either. |
