| Spain GP May 10:th
Me:
Not a great day for a Alesi fan :-(. Johnny was the brigt
light of the day with a good qualifying, 7:th, Alesi was down in 14:th. Alesi ended the
race with some kind of problem loosing two places on the last lap. Johnny got in 7:th.
Jean Alesi:
" The incident
with Frentzen on the first lap really ruined my race. He tried to come round the outside
and we touched, but when you are in the pack like that everyone is trying everything that
they can...
The car was understeering as it did in qualifying, though the fuel load made it slightly
better, and after that first lap delay and then my refuelling problem on the first pit
stop, it became very tough for me. "
Johnny
Herbert:
"I lost the chance of fifth place
right at the start of the race, and I'm bitterly disappointed about it. I was always one
of the best at starts last year, but despite practising a lot this season I still haven't
got them right. It just hasn't clicked.
Besides the start, my race wasn't bad. I was pleased with the way I kept the tyres at
their best, although I couldn't really lean on them when the fuel load was at its lowest.
I was worried they wouldn't stand much treatment at that stage. The other thing was that I
just couldn't slipstream anyone. I could get close to Jacques, but there was no chance to
pass. The only time I did get right with him, in the third corner at the start, he just
accelerated away. I also had an exhaust problem 10 or so laps into the race, though it
didn't really affect the performance.
The team did a great job on the pit stops, and the car was reliable, but it all came down
to the start. I'm the most disappointed man on the team today. " |
