German GP  Hockenheim August 2:th
Me:
The German GP was not a thrilling experience was it ? Jacques made a great race at was pushing at the end, but something in he's car broke 7 laps from the end so he had to stop pushing. For Alesi it was a finish, but what more? nothing to write home about...I know I'm disappointed anyway after some great racing in the previous races. Now looking forward to Hungary and RAIN!
And yes Sauber has signed a new contract for 1999 with Ferrari for engine-supply, just as I was saying that I wanted a new engine in my last little speech on this page. Well let's hope for more Ferrari-power next year... But I doubt it.

Jean Alesi:
"The start was not so good for me because when Wurz nearly stalled I had to lift off and move to the left to avoid hitting him. I lost some ground as a result, but was able to make it up in the traffic.
After that I pushed hard all the race. The car was fine and gave me absolutely no problem today, but it just wasn't quick enough. But I am happy for the team because whatever the position, it was important that we finished. Now we can start to build again to score points in Hungary. "

Johnny Herbert:
"I had a reasonable start, and for a while on the first lap Jean and I swapped places until I got caught on the inside at the second chicane. Then Barichello, who was on a two-stop strategy, came by me on the straight.
After my stop the car felt pretty good and the lap times were reasonable. I could maintain the gap to Jean. But then fourth gear only operated if I was accelerating, not when I downshifted. I missed a chicane as a result. I discovered that if I changed down quickly I could get third gear, but going into the 38th lap when I downchanged at the first corner I only got the gear momentarily. Then as the car went into neutral the system cut out the engine. A disappointing end to a disappointing weekend for me. "
