Scouting Report
1997-98 Season
Led team in game-winning goals. Tied for second on team in shorthanded goals. Only Panther
to appear in all 82 games.
The Physical Game
Lindsay uses his body effectively but doesn't thrash people. He is sturdy and sometimes
gets it into his head to stir things up, to try and give his team a bit of a spark. He
plays much bigger than his size. He takes a hit to make a play, but more often initiates
the contact.
The Finesse Game
Lindsay continues to add more
offensive touches to a predominantly defensive game. He has a big shot but an average
release. His first instinct is to try to beat the goalie between the pads. A long reach
enables him to score many of his goals from his work in front of the net. He has decent
hands, but it's his second and third effort that make the difference. Lindsay is a support
player who, teamed with more offensive linemates, acts as a safety valve. He is not
particularly creative but he will follow the play to the net. His skating speed and
agility are average, but Lindsay is balanced and strong on his skates. He has good size,
which he uses in a checking role. He sometimes gets a bit lazy and doesn't keep his feet
moving. When he doesn't take that extra step, he takes a bad hooking or tripping penalty.
There is no subtlety to his forechecking. He skates in a straight line with limited
agility.
The Intangibles
It could be just a coincidence, but
the Panthers have never won a game when Lindsay is out of the lineup (0-11-1, regular
season and playoffs). He is a borderline third-winger because of his skill level, but he
is a glue guy whose value to the team is immeasurable
Projection
Lindsay would be on the bubble if it
weren't for his intensity. Scoring 20 goals would be a real stretch for him.
