How it all started....

This story begins in two different states in U.S.A. State number one is Kentucky from where the cousins Kevin and Brian comes from. Both comes from musical families that have a strong religious faith. In Kentucky were Kevin and Brian well-known, because they often appeared at different church conserts. On the big weekends they all gathered and sang together. They sang traditional, classic hits and new songs from their influences Boys 2 men, Shai and Jodici. Already from the early teenage time they both knew that they had something special, a feeling for music.

State number two is Florida. A.J, Howie and Nick often met each other on different auditions in town. The three of them were soloartists with skills in musical theater, commercials and movies. They always held there eyes open for new experiencies. To make time run faster when they waited for their turn to audition they sang A' Capella together. A few auditons later they noticed that the time in the waiting room were much more important then the auditions. Their voices harmonized nice together and people thought that it sounded very, very good.

In Kentucky Kevin started to get tired on his job, singing in a cover band. He wanted to try something new and realized that Lexington in Kentucky were to small for his dreams. So Kev packed his bags and went to Orlando. He had no job but it didn't take long until he go a job as guide on Disney World (sometimes even as Aladdin) Kevin heard about the guys that sang A'capella so well together from a girl on his other extra job, on a restaurant. One day Kevin met the guys and Kevin became very impressed in their way of singing a'capella, and in their dansing. Why not start a band they all thought, and they did. But Kev felt that the group needed one more member to get complete. He called his cousin Brian back in Lexington. Brian where in school when Kevin called, so he looked up the number to the school and called. At first Brian thought that something had happened to his family so he was relieved when Kevin asked him if he wanted to join the band. Kevin told about the guys he'd met, and after that Brian took the next flight down to Florida. The day after that the group was complete. The only thing that was missing was a name. Kevin suggested that they would call themself Backstreet boys after a market in Orlando (Backstreet market).

They started to perform with their a'cappela and people got impressed in their way to sing vocally without instruments. A local record producer Louis J. Pearlman and one other big music fan heard them sing and very soon they were introduced to two big managers: Donna and Johnny Wright. By now the guys felt that they had found the right person that could help them get to the top. The Wrights realized that the boys didn't need any voice training because their voices were so vocalized and in tuned together. The managers contacted Orlando record company and played a concert with the boys on their answering machine. The record company quickly got interersted in the band. A veteran in the branch : Dave McPherson soon became a real BSB fan.

In the beginning of 1994 the record company Jive visited a Backstreet boys concert. He became very excited and wrote a contract with the boys and Dave McPherson. Next step was to get the boys in to the record studio, and as we know it resulted in hit after hit, I'll never break your heart, Get down and Quit playing games ( with my heart ) and more.
