Opus 3 Cantus parallel tracking arm Opus 3 Cantus is the product of a new revolutionary idea. The usual problems that arise in the attempt to recover musical information from a record, are diminished by a simple unusual and unique construction. The aim has been to recover as much of the original recording as possible, including the "shades" of timbre, the complete stereo image - three dimensions, and the vast range of dynamics that can be stored in a good, esoteric recording. This demands very low distortion and a minimum of resonance in the mechanical system. Furthermore, eliminating the sources of resonance minimizes the effect of acoustical feedback and other vibration interference from the environment. Our carriage construction with four struts, and a vertical pivoting point (only) set above the plane of the cartridge provides these requirements coupled with the important feature of parallel tracking. (A pivoted arm can only be tangential to the original cutting of the groove at two points across the record). The low mass of the moving parts also allows the stylus to follow the groove more easily than one that has to overcome the inertia of a long arm. So without compromising the performance, we have aimed to keep the arm technically simple, keeping the price down, and facilitating easy and cheap repairs in case of accidents. All these features combine to make the Opus3 Cantus an arm for both the music lover and for the hifi enthusiast. Technical data Weight: 380 gm total (including 15 gms cartridge). Only 30 grams of moving parts. Dimensions: 210x180x80 mm when mounted. Mounting position: 220-230 mm from centre of turntable spindle. v\vskip 5mm NB.i The Cantus can be attached to the turntable base with a small quantity of cyanoacrylate adhesive.
