AND THIS IS HOW IT ALL STARTED

Robert Smith and Laurence Tolhurst first met on a school bus in September the 17th 1964, but they didn´t say hello to each other until May 1972. Robert:  " I got my first electric guitar in December 1972 when i was attending the Notre Dame Middle School, an experimental school whose methods of teaching 11- 13 year olds was thought to be revolutionary; very free-thinking, and i liked it. If you were crafty enough, you could convince the teachers you were special: i did virtually nothing for 3 years. But it was at heart a Catholic school, so there was still a certain amount of religious education. This forced me to skip lessons and, with Lol, Michael ( Dempsey ) and a few others, go to the music room where, using the school´s odd mixture of kettle drums, Spanish guitars, vibes and the like, we learned to play weird versions of various contemporary songs, and throwing some strange semi-religous words on top, we created a uniquely awful new form of music. Lol:  " Logically, we should have gone to University, our brothers had gone. But, just then, punk arrived and we turned down University. I went to work in a pharmaceutical lab and we started rehearsing again at Robert´s house. "
More will be addes shortly !!
