Pinball?. With Extreme
The shareware version comes with a table called
Rock Fantasy (look at thepicture). Here, your job is
to help a rock band on their way to stardom. Get record
contracts, play musicvideos, collect ticket money etc.
The animated arcade style
3D dotmation scoreboard (description taken from
advertisement) helps a lot in creating the right atmosphere.
It looks much like the real thing. Here you get tips and
instructions presented along with nice animations. As in
every decent pinball game, there are lots of bonuses to
collect. To do it, however, requires skill and fast
reflections. To get the really big points, it's necessary to hit
multiple targets in a certain order.
Take a look at the picture. See the TV? During play it
shows different screens (depending on what you do) and
even a video. And take a look at the top of the table. See
the guitar? It is animated. These and other details add a lot
to the atmosphere. Of course, there are also blinking
lights, samples and background music. The music is of
course rock music.
Most of the time, you only have one ball playing the same
time, however, it's possible to get another. If you're good,
you'll manage not to loose it in the following 10 seconds.
The balls are texture mapped and look pretty good. If you
"sell" a lot of records the ball changes to an LP etc.
Extreme Pinball has a few drawbacks, such as no winning
situations. Too often, whatever you do - you loose the
ball. Somtimes you'll get a new ball, though. Anyway, it's
a drawback.
If you register Extreme Pinball, you'll get three more
levels. You can also go to a retail store and buy the
registered version. Epic MegaGames and Electronic Arts
cooperate in distributing the game.
Because of excellent graphics, heart pumping rock music,
lots of nifty details and gameplay, Extreme Pinball is a
great game. It gives you the right pinball feeling.
