To be fair though, I am considering upgrading to something with more voices and a more fullgrown sound. Currently I'm considering the Roland SC-88PRO and the Yamaha MU-100r, but I just saw that there will be a new Yamaha card out soon(?... no release date on the Yamaha sites yet). It is called SW1000, and is (from the specs) very impressive as it is essentially a MU100r on a PCI-card, with additional multi channel audio recording support(18 bit DAC & 20 bit ADC), but lacking the VL tones of the MU100r. If you want the VL capabilities you can buy an add-on board (as I understand it).
To give you an idea of what you might expect from the Yamaha SY-XG50,
I have encoded two excerpts from a MIDI file, one General MIDI version
and one XG-MIDI version as RealAudio
files. It's sa song by Rush called "Between the wheels" . This is work
in progress.. ;-)
| Between the wheel (Rush) | 28.8 kbps (Modem) | 128 kbps (Dual ISDN) |
| General MIDI | GM-mono | GM-stereo(high quality) |
| XG-MIDI | XG-mono | XG-stereo(high quality) |
That's all for now! Enjoy the MIDIs!
