Community Treatment Order

A treatment order is another alternative form of probation specially designed for offenders who suffer from some form of substance abuse or medical/psychiatric condition which is deemed to be associated with their criminal activity.

In order to be eligible for a treatment order the accused must sign a contract binding her to a specific treatment program at a specific treatment center over a specific period of time.

An alternative prison sentence is specified in the court order and in the event of misconduct (continued drug or alchohol abuse, refusal to continue with treatment or co-operate with caregivers, absconding etc) the alternative prison sentence can be invoked.
