The Probation and Parole Board

The Probation and Parole Board acts as an judiciary body in matters concerning planning for and/or discipline of persons sentenced to prison, probation or persons released from prison on parole.

The Board rules in such matters as applications for early release from prison, sanctions for misbehavior and/or rehabilitative requirements to be met by persons sentenced to probation or parole, community work orders, community treatment orders or home detention.

The Board also rules in matters of extension of the period of supervision and in revoking the period of parole. In the case of partially revoked parole the Board can authorise incaraceration for periods of upto one month. If parole is to be revoked in its entirety and the period of incarceration should exceed one month then the matter is referred to the District Courts.

The Board rules even in matters of treatment outside of the prison system for inmates currently serving prison sentences and the Board hears offenders appeals of decisions made by the Prison and Probation Service.
