Some years ago a friend of mine introduced inte the world of rotaries.
I have always been interested in cars and technical stuff and by some
reason I prefere odd and not-so-common things in front of ordinary.
So the rotary was a good mixture of this.
I started with buying a Mazda RX-5 (also known as Cosmo) in 1987 for about
§ 200. After trading some parts (incl studded tires!) I was down to about
§ 50. Not too bad. I spent about two months repairing rust and re-painting
and I also built a new engine (with help from my friend). This car was then used
as my daily driver during summertime for about two years.
In 1989 I bought my first RX-7. A 1:st generation from 1983. This was used as
my daily driver until 1992. I also got me a NSU Ro80 which "only" needed to have
a few rust spots fixed before it could be in condition to use. It is still
not put together. The few small rust spots soon where discovered to be many
and big ones. I grinded, welded, grinded, welded and so on for a couple of
months but didnīt finish it back then. And the longer you wait, the tougher
it gets to start over again.
In 1991 I became interested in
racing I started to modify the RX-7 in 1991 and participated in some local
circuit racing events. By the end of 1992 I had to make a choise, continue
fighting in the middle of the pack and still be able to use it as a road car
or fully convert it to a racing machine. I did the last.
