About this cover for "The Lentils From Babylon"
This cover was altered quite a bit by Gladstone before it went to print. On
the original cover (never published), Scrooge isn't frightened by the Beagle
Boy behind him, but by the tsunami-wave of lentils that is about to squash
them both. Scrooge's pupils have been redrawn to look at the Beagle Boy
instead of upwards, Scrooge and the Beagle Boy have been enlarged - and the
cracking fence has been removed, together with all the lentils behind. But
it appears the editors still wanted to show the lentils raining, and so they
did a lentil rain of their own, discretely above the Beagle Boy. Its actual
function on the cover can only be speculated about. It just... is
there.
