RELEASE!!!
I grew tired of pumping out betas so here's the full deal. No images yet but the model is available on the download page for you to play around with. (.prj format, includes teak deck map). READ the conditions on the download page BEFORE downloading, please. I'm lazy so no credz and other things are up yet. I've also uploaded some of my earlier artwork. It's available in my site's art section.

May 25 1999
New additions:
  • Look, she's even got a bell..
  • The 2 strange objects (some kind of rangefinders?) on 010? level
  • A searchlight on the same level
  • Navigation radar on conning tower top

    I'm going to do:

  • The bow is too round
  • Helipad markings..
  • Real railing on the sides instead of a solid box
  • The breakwater in front of turret I
  • Turret II and III should have rangefinders

    May 17 1999
Time flies by.. ß5 WILL be the last beta. What's happened?
  • Anchors!! Check out the chains!!
  • Anything more? Naah..

What will be added in the release version then?

  • The helipad needs SOME pattern..
  • 08 bridge superstructure needs a rebuild
  • Little details like life preservers and the ship's bell (where is the bell supposed to be, btw??)
  • The ship needs a name! Which one, Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri or Wisconsin? A little problem: Naming it New Jersey will piss off the Iowa sailors, naming it Iowa will piss off the New Jersey sailors and so forth :-)

And what about this site then? What will come?

  • Models will be available at the download page
  • Credits, some people who have helped me will be credited appropriately
  • Maybe some photos I took of the Russian destroyer Bespokoniy when she visited Stockholm
    Apr 24 1999
No new beta yet, the model has been changed however: What's happened?
  • Blast shields behind ABLs
  • ABLs made smaller
  • Turrets changed, they are now wider with remade guns
  • Subtle change in the "battleship gray" color. However, gray is a very hard color to make and some hint as to which color is the REAL Iowa color would be nice..
    Apr 20 1999
This page has now been restructured. The model is coming along just fine, today's changes are:
  • Stern shortened and rounded off
  • Bow shortened
  • Conning tower (on top of bridge) is cylinder insted of box shaped
  • 16" turret mounts changed
  • O8 bridge size changed, also it now has a white canvas cover
  • Radar (surface search??) on top of main mast is now smaller
  • Helipad size decreased
  • JPG quality lowered to save server space

    Still to come:

  • Blast shields behind ABLs
  • The ABLs are too large
  • The pattern on the helipad
  • Anchors and chains
  • The superstructure holding the O8 bridge and radar is supposed to be squarish, not round
  • Details, details, details.
  • Probably much more..
    Apr 18 1999
The model itself hasn't changed (much), but this is about to change now. I have gotten help from some very knowledgeable people, who will of course be credited when I realease final version 1. Then this page will be restructured somewhat, to make things more clear.
    Feb 22 1999
OK, now, let's see.. Some more things done. A few superstructure changes, the main mast has been rebuilt, and the fantail added. The ship now has a teak deck, like the original. Some info on the real Iowas added for your convenience.
    Feb 16 1999
    ARRRRGH!!! I'm in a hurry!!
    Feb 14 1999
I rebuilt the superstructure from scratch, looks more like the real thing now. The strange mast on the bow is added. All 5 inchers, phalanxes and missile launchers added. I'll now have to make the helipad, the fantail, finish the superstructure, and redo the main mast. Then I can start making all the little details.. :-)
    Feb 13 1999
Bow shortened, railing added, 4 5" guns added, Phalanx CIWS finished, superstructure rebuilt. Things should become easier now, as I've found a good line drawing at battleship.org. I've made a few "standard" parts that are likely to be useful for other projects. Prefabricated parts should really save time.
    Feb 09 1999
This is to become a detailed 3DS model of an Iowa class battleship. As you can see, it is still in beta. The bow and fantail needs more work, (the bow became too long, oops) and the ship is lacking detail.
Why am I doing this? I was bored and felt like modeling? =) No, I guess I just felt like refreshing my 3DS skills.
I really hate that I don't have hi-res images of a battleship. All images I have are low-res, and after printing (so I have something to look at when modeling without running back and forth between my PC:s) they look even worse. Argh.
Information about the real Iowa class and other warships can be found here, along with images so you can compare my model with the real thing. Do remember that my model is still in beta =).

    Info
Time in making so far:40 hours modeling
    What's left?see below
    .See below, OK?
    Programs used:3D Studio R4, Photoshop 5
