FLORIDA 5, BOSTON 4

Bill Lindsay scored the go-ahead goal with 5:56 to play as the Florida Panthers ended Boston's six-game unbeaten streak with a 5-4 victory over the Bruins.

A point shot by Florida's Esa Tikkanen was deflected in front by Boston defenseman Dave Ellett. The puck was in the right faceoff circle and Lindsay beat Ellett to it before chopping a backhander over Jim Carey for his second goal.

"I just flipped the puck without looking at the net," Lindsay said. "It's one of those shots that sometimes just finds a way in. It was not like it was on a breakaway or anything and I had pressure to get the shot on goal."

Carey saw it differently.

"I actually thought the last goal was a deflection," Carey said. "I do not think we have played that badly since coming home. I think our effort is still there."

Lindsay also assisted on Tom Fitzgerald's tally 11 seconds into the game as Florida ended a four-game losing streak.

Ray Bourque had a goal and an assist and Carey made 24 saves for the Bruins, who are 1-2-1 at home and 6-2 on the road.

"All I know is Raymond played a helluva game last night. He played his (butt) off. If my name is (Jason) Allison, (Dmitri) Khristich or (Anson) Carter, I think I'd be ashamed of myself," Boston coach Pat Burns said. "I do not think Jim (Carey) had a particularly good game tonight and I am not going to stand behind the bench with pom-poms and banners waving when guys are not working hard. You do not have to worry about the team this week in practice -- they'll work hard."

Ray Sheppard gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with four seconds to play in the first period. Bourque was serving an interference penalty when Sheppard's blast deflected off a Bruin in front and past Carey for his first goal of the season.

"This is a big game for us to go home like this," Sheppard said. "Boston has been playing real well and we come out and play a real hard third period and Billy (Lindsay) scores a big one and that was the story tonight. I just hope we're building on something here."

Bourque tied the game with a power-play tally at 13:04 of the second period, but Florida's Scott Mellanby answered 24 seconds later with his fourth goal, knotting it, 3-3.

Sergei Samsonov -- one of the Bruins' two first-round draft picks -- notched his first NHL goal 46 seconds into the third period when he beat John Vanbiesbrouck from the top of the slot.

Tim Taylor added a shorthanded goal just over two minutes later, redirecting Bourque's slap shot from the right point to put Boston in front, 4-3. Taylor, picked up in the waiver draft from Detroit, leads Boston with six goals after scoring just three in 44 games last season.

Sheppard tied the game 5:50 into the third period with his second goal of the game.
