The Dallas Real Time Clock keeps track of the date and time. In addition to basic time-keeping, the RTC (Real Time Clock) also provides power to the BIOS in order to maintain configuration data. The battery built into the RTC has an estimated lifespan of approximately 5 to 10 years depending on usage.
