The Guinea Pig was brought to Europe in the 16-th century. The first people to keep Guinea Pigs was the Incas in South America. They kept them for the same reasons as we today keep rabbits, that is both as pets and to eat. There are some differences between tame and wild Guinea Pigs. The wild ones have longer legs than the tame. They are also good at jumping and climbing, things the tame Guinea Pigs don't need to be good at. Today wild Guinea Pigs are found in South America. A new born Guinea Pig has fur, open eyes and can hear. A few hours after they are born they are already ready to eat som grass. Guinea Pigs are not rodents. Believe it or not, the Guinea Pig is more closely related to the horse than to the rat. They might look like rodents, but they are not!
