CERTIFICATE

Master of Science, Johan Tryding, has been employed as a research assistant from 1 June 1996 to 1 June 1987 and thereafter as a Ph.D. student at the division of solid mechanics at Lund Institute of Technology. He has with excellent results attended courses, which is a part of the Ph.D. studies. Tryding has as his Ph.D. works to systematically investigate the very important, but at the same time difficult and poor investigated subject, low-cycle fatigue. Experiments, numerical and analytical methods have been used in the investigation. He has conducted the investigation with great skills and good recognition of the essential issues. The investigation has been primarily directed towards simple but get fundamental methods to predict the risk for failure. Tryding has proven that he has the skills, on the basis on his own carefully conducted investigation and interpretation of other results, put forward simple summaries and get astonishing carefully descriptions which is to be used in applied applications.

Parallel to the Ph.D. studies, Johan Tryding, have participated in the education given by the division of solid mechanics for chemist and machine engineer students. The education, which has consisted of arithmetic exercises and laboratory lessons, has included approximately 570 hours. He has put down a great effort into preparing and developing educational material, including exercises.

Johan Tryding have a good capacity to cooperate with his colleges and is in general terms appreciated at the division. As far at I know, his educational skills has been received positively by his students. When I now leave my position as full professor at the division I will give him my best recommendation.
