The Evil Conspiracy

The world is complicated and often bewildering. Conspiracy theories are attractive because they provide an easy explanation to all the things we worry about. Somewhere, they say, there is a group of evil people who secretly control everything. Their aim is to take over the world, all power and property. In the Christian variety of the theories, the bad guys are devil-worshippers who are in league to prepare the world for the arrival of Antichrist.

Conspiracy theories are also self-proving. So what if there is no evidence? That only proves how extremely powerful the conspiracy is! They are able to erase every trace of their activities! Who needs proof? All we have to do is read the news and see all the bad things that are happening...

Anti-potterists frequently see the Potter books as part of the evil plan. We are not told whether J.K.Rowling herself is consciously part of it, probably because the anti-potterists are afraid of being sued. Those who propagate the conspiracy theories usually have two main sources: The book of Revelations and writings by the infamous satanist Alisteir Crowley. Any parallell that can be found, no matter how far-fetched, seems to be legitimate as evidence.

Here, the anti-potterists even stoop to using the occult art of numerology. An article on CRN claims:

In regard to the number four, Crowley writes: "Below this abyss we find the moral qualities of man, of which there are six. The highest is symbolized by the number Four. Its nature is fatherly." (Ibid. p.2)
Rowling continues to remind her readers that Harry's address is "number four": "As he pulled into the driveway of number four..."
In Rowling's Hogwart's school of witchcraft there are four headmasters, four founders and four houses. In the fourth book in the series, Harry is the FOURTH challenger chosen to enter an occult contest. (...)
It therefore is obvious, that in a true occult fashion (the real stuff), Rowling is describing Harry Potter as a "messiah" (i.e. antichrist)

And pastor David J. Meyer of the "Last Trumpet Ministries" writes:

On July 8 at midnight, bookstores everywhere were stormed by millions of children to obtain the latest and fourth book of the series known as "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." These books were taken into homes everywhere with a real evil spirit following each copy to curse those homes. July 8th was also the 18th day (three sixes in numerology) from the witches sabat of midsummer. July 8th was also the 13th day from the signing of the United Religions Charter in San Francisco. Now we have learned that the public school system is planning to use the magic of Harry Potter in the classrooms making the public schools centers of witchcraft training.

It is not surprising that the anti-potterists are deceiving themselves when their minds are so clearly full of the very superstitions they claim to be fighting against.
