Dark memories in Theresienstadt
Visitors from all over the world come to Theresienstadt to see the concentration camp and to try to understand what happened there. So did we together with our Czech friends. The dark memories from the war characterize the town. This visit stirred up lots of emotions and a creepy sensation.

The Germans turned all of Theresienstadt into a ghetto during the war. In 1941 the first transport of Jews arrived at a special camp in the old fortress. In all 140.000 Jews passed through the camp. Out of 15.000 children only 100 survived.

Theresienstadt was used as an "exhibition" camp by the Germans and the basins (see picture) were neither used nor seen by any prisoners. Behind the polished front people were tortured and forced to stand tightly packed together in narrow and dark cells.
