Rejoined Vasco da Gama in December '99 after being sacked by Flamengo for going to a nightclub the day after his team were knocked out of the Brazilian Is known for his love of nightlife and once said that he plays better after a good night out. Brazil's hero at the 1994 World Cup with five goals, Romario was controversially forced to pull out of Brazil's '98 World Cup squad because of injury.
A player who appears to be able to turn on the style and score goals when it suits him. Joined Flamengo in January '98 after the second of two unhappy spells with Spain's Valencia. Has scored 41 international goals despite enduring long periods out of the national team because of his attitude. Made an impact at the 1988 Seoul Olympics where he was the top scorer with seven goals. Signed for Barcelona in July '93 for US$4 million after scoring 96 goals in 102 games for PSV.
