Extremely pacey right-back who has been a regular in the Brazilian right-back position since Jorginho ended his international career in 1995.
Nicknamed "Pendolino" after Italy's express trains for overlapping runs. His constant forays upfield were crucial for Brazil as they reached the final at France '98.
Was part of Brazil's 1994 World Cup winning side, replacing Jorginho who was injured after only 20 minutes of the final against Italy. Was a vital part of the national team squad that won the Confederations Cup and the Copa America in 1997. Started with local San Paolo side winning two Intercontinental Cups. Became 15 million dollar player when Palmeiras bought him from Sao Paulo in 1995. Spell at Real Zaragoza in 1994/95. Joined AS Roma from Palmeiras in 1997.
